Healthly living
For any healthy person the sauna bath presents no health risk, but rather gives a pleasant, relaxing experience beneficial to both body and mind. The golden rule with the sauna is the feeling of comfort; you can go to the sauna as often as you wish, stay there as long as you wish and repeat the hot-cold cycle as many times as you wish so long as it feels comfortable. Beside the relaxing feeling that you get from a sauna, it also has a cleansing effect. The heat in the sauna causes the pores of your skin to open and the perspiration process clears away oil, dead skin and bacteria leaving your skin looking healthier and more youthful. Cleanliness is an essential part of sauna bathing, because the sweating opens up the pores and cleans them of sebum, bacteria and all sorts of dirt. After sweating and a good rinse the bather is squeaky clean. The heart also increases your blood flow, which in turn removes wastes like lactic acid from the body. This can help ease the pain of aching muscles and joints, which many people experience after exercising. The sauna also relieves allergies and sinus congestion, and helps to relieve arthritis pain.
If you are pregnant, have any heart problems, or if you are a senior citizen, you should consult your doctor before taking a sauna bath, because the sauna temporarily increases your heart rate. Also young babies should not be taken in to a hot sauna. As a rule, everybody can safely enjoy the sauna if they feel OK about it. Some additional care should be taken if the bather has a history of low blood pressure or is under the influence of alcohol.
